Moscow, Sept. 9, 2011 – IMAX Corporation announced an expansion to its existing agreement with Kinomax for a new digital IMAX® theatre in Moscow, scheduled to open in 2013.
In June, IMAX announced an agreement with Kinomax to open three new IMAX theatres in Astrakhan, Ryazan and Tomsk. Today’s announcement means that IMAX is poised to have five theatres in operation with three under development in Moscow.
"We are pleased to extend our partnership with Kinomax in this very important region," said IMAX CEO Richard L. Gelfond. "Russia and the CIS comprise our third fastest-growing market worldwide and we are delighted to build upon our success with an exhibitor like Kinomax, which has helped bring The IMAX Experience® to more and more moviegoers."
"This agreement to open an additional IMAX theatre underscores our continued successful and strategic collaboration with IMAX," said Kinomax President Boris Asriev. "Moscow moviegoers love the IMAX format, and we expect the opening of a new IMAX theatre in Moscow to be successful."
